End of Year Digital Clean Up

With the new year steadily approaching, it’s important to dedicate some time during the next two weeks to clean up, sort, and back up your digital data on your devices. To ensure a fresh start going into 2021, follow end of the year digital clean up tips below!

Declutter Your Mailbox

Email is a tool that most of us use on a daily basis, even more so now with the amount of individuals working from home this year. For this reason, it is possible that your inbox may be overwhelmed with messages seen at a low priority that you have yet to respond to or read. We suggest starting here by deleting all unnecessary spam and expired promotional emails. One tool that you can use to sort your mail by importance is the star option. We suggest utilizing your star button to keep track of any messages that may be significant to you, client specific, or time sensitive and trashing the rest of the items in your inbox. To further avoid a cluttered mailbox, you can use this time to unsubscribe from mailing lists that aren’t beneficial to you.

Manage Social Media Accounts

If you are someone who lets your direct messages or friend requests pile up, now is the time to review them and get rid of some of those pesky notification bubbles. Once this step is done, it’s time to do a quick assessment of your friends list and the groups that you are a part of. Don’t be afraid to unfriend people you don’t know or unfollow groups you aren’t actively participating in! The less non relevant posts you have on your timeline, the more efficient your time will be spent.

Backup Files & Photos

The beginning of the year can mark a milestone to help you keep track of how often you are backing up your computer’s most important data. This includes dumping the photos off of your mobile devices to a more permanent home. We highly recommend that you utilize an external hard drive formatted for your computer to help you free up storage space if you are someone who is known for snapping a lot of photos. A clean workspace is a happy workspace and the same goes for your desktop. Clear out any downloads you no longer need and ensure your desktop is free of scattered files by organizing these items into folders. Take some extra time here to delete or offload apps that you don’t use and update the ones that you do.

We hope that these digital organization tips will help prepare you for success as we welcome in the new year later this month.
